A Collaboration with the Past: The History & Heritage of Ten Trinity Square
One of London’s most cherished landmarks is being restored by Reignwood Group to become the finest residential and hotel address in the capital. The historic Ten Trinity Square will deliver contemporary luxury while paying homage to its rich history.
With its unparalleled riverside location beside the Tower of London, this Grade II* listed Beaux-Arts building is the work of Edwardian architect, Sir Edwin Cooper. Replete with soaring Corinthian columns and grand porticos, Ten Trinity Square became internationally renowned after its construction in the early 20th Century. On completion of the four-year extensive restoration by multinational investor and developer, Reignwood Group, it will house 41 fully serviced residences, a distinguished private members’ club and the Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square.
“Ten Trinity Square is an iconic landmark, constructed without compromise. From the first moment I saw the building, I understood that its history and heritage are what makes it truly unique,” Songhua Ni, President of Reignwood Investments UK Ltd, explains.
Opened as the Port of London Authority headquarters in 1922 by Prime Minister David Lloyd George, its sumptuous ballroom went on to host the 1946 reception of the General Assembly of the United Nations. Severe damage to the building occurred during World War II, but a renovation in 1970 saw it prosper once more to become the European headquarters of insurance broker Willis Faber Limited.
The site on which it sits dates back to the Roman age, while it is also very close to where 17th Century diarist Samuel Pepys worked and lived. His account of The Great Fire of London in1666 from his office in Seething Lane is legendary, especially as it started a stone’s throw from Ten Trinity Square.
Claire Tomalin, author of Samuel Pepys: The Unequalled Self, says, “Ten Trinity Square’s unique Thames-side location provides a portrait into Pepys’s empire: the naval expert, the writer and the first modern man. This section of London also reaches back to the Romans – there is a tremendous amount of physical history here, but also emotional history.”
The preservation of Ten Trinity Square’s antiquity, from its carved portraits and exterior stonework has been paramount to Reignwood Group, Aukett Swanke, the appointed architects and MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology). The aim has been to strike a balance between the original neo-classical architecture and opulent new interiors.
“Ten Trinity Square offers the exclusive opportunity to purchase a rare slice of London’s heritage within a treasured London landmark, to experience the grandeur of the building and the stories it whispers,” says Suzette Vela Burkett, Managing Director of Aukett Swanke.
Prices for Ten Trinity Square, The Residences at Four Seasons start at £5 million.
